Choose a base: ½ cup . Use juice, kefir, milk or milk alternative.
Choose one fruit or a combination: 1 cup (approximately). Soak overnight in the refrigerator or put in a bowl and cover with 1 cup boiling water for 30 minutes. Use the liquid in the smoothie.
Add other ingredients desired: Seeds, nuts, berries, protein powder, nut butter
(1 Tbs) work well or use spinach, chard or kale for a green boost.
Make it custom with a dash of vanilla or almond flavoring, cinnamon, nutmeg, cocoa or a few drops of a food grade essential oil you enjoy.
Add ice if desired. Blend until smooth and enjoy. Adjust liquids to the consistency you enjoy. Serves 2.
Sample Smoothie recipe
1 cup boiling water
10 dried apricots or equivalent amount of fruit of choice
½ ripe banana
½ c orange juice
1 TBS almond or cashew butter.
Pour boiling water over dried fruit in bowl. Let set 30 minutes. Place all ingredients in blender. Add ice cubes if desired and blend. Add liquid to desired consistency. Serves 2.
